After being discovered as a stray in June 2022, Tic Tac, a pit bull, thought she had hit the jackpot when she was adopted. However, her joy was short-lived, and after 11 months, she found herself back at the Voorhees Animal Orphanage in New Jersey, once again in search of a forever home.
Jennifer Bailey, devastated to see Tic Tac return in July 2023, shared that the dog was initially confused since she had spent almost a year in a home. Tic Tac had been adopted after just a month at the shelter, but due to a fight with the resident dog at her new home, she had to come back.
The shelter shared a picture of Tic Tac's dejected and bewildered face on their Facebook page to raise interest and help her get adopted again. Describing her as a super-sweet girl who thrives in the company of humans, the shelter heavily relies on social media to spread the word about their adoptable pets.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), out of the 3.1 million dogs that end up in American shelters annually, fortunately, 2 million are adopted. Additionally, about 710,000 canines are returned to their original owners each year after being in shelters. However, there are still hundreds of thousands of dogs waiting to be adopted and find their new forever families.
When people decide to get a new dog, the majority (34 percent) still prefer getting their new pup directly from a breeder, making it the most popular source for pet ownership. Nevertheless, rescuing dogs from shelters or humane societies is gaining popularity, with 23 percent of owners choosing this option, as reported by the American Pet Products Association. Despite the attention that Tic Tac, the 2-year-old mixed breed, has received on social media, she has not been adopted yet, but Jennifer Bailey remains hopeful that she will find a loving home soon.
Bailey emphasizes the significant role that social media plays in helping their animals find adoptive families. Many Facebook users have commented on Tic Tac's "returned adoption" story, expressing their hope that someone will come forward to adopt her.
One comment admires Tic Tac, describing her as a "cutie pie dog" with an adorable little face, while another person emphasizes the need for decompression time for dogs when they enter a new home and interact with other pets slowly.
Despite the positive reactions and numerous shares of the Facebook post, Tic Tac is still in need of a loving family. The shelter hopes that soon enough, "this little angel" will find her new forever home.
